SYDNEY, March 15, 2017 – Chapman Eastway, one of the premier family office and specialist business advisory firms in Australia, today announced that Steven Yap, who has more than 20 years of cross border M&A and tax experience, has been named Chief Executive Officer of CE Capital and to the firm’s executive management team.
Yap was previously a partner at Deloitte and at Ernst & Young, and earlier served as the Global Chief Financial Officer of a global investment firm. Yap’s experience further strengthens Chapman Eastway’s capabilities to identify and execute strategic opportunities in Australia and throughout Asia.
CE Capital provides M&A, corporate advisory, consulting and cross border tax services to private equity entities and privately held companies seeking strategic investment opportunities within Australia, including cross border transactions in the Asia-Pacific. CE Capital coordinates closely with Chapman Eastway’s accounting, tax and advisory teams to provide comprehensive specialist solutions to clients.

Yap’s appointment follows the December announcement that Clyde McConaghy, an internationally renowned business executive and family office leader, was named Chairman of the Board, the first in the firm’s 120-year history. Additionally, Louise McBride, who has 25 years of commercial law experience specialising in taxation, was named Special Consultant and was appointed to Chapman Eastway’s advisory board in August 2016.
Wide Range Of Experience
Yap’s experience includes serving and working with organizations of all sizes globally, including private equity-investment firms, privately held companies, global groups, government agencies and NGOs. He has led numerous M&A projects globally and led bilateral pricing agreements involving the UK, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. He is a frequent public speaker on complex cross border issues and sector subject matters in the Asia-Pacific.
At Deloitte, Yap served as the Energy and Resources Leader and M&A Tax Leader for Singapore and Southeast Asia (SEA), and he significantly grew those practice areas. In 2013, he was recognized as “M&A Advisor of the Year” in Singapore by Finance Monthly.
At Ernst & Young, Yap led a transaction team in one of the largest and most complex cross border leveraged buyouts in SEA. He received numerous awards as the transaction advisor, including the Merrill Lynch Southeast Asia Deal of the Year Award, the Star Cruises Southeast Asia M&A Deal of the Year Award in the Asian Legal Business 2006 Awards.
Yap served on different feedback committees to different governments including the Services and Industry Sector Tax Feedback Group of 2002 Economic Review Committee, chaired by the Senior Minister of State, Trade & Industry and Education. A Chartered Accountant in Australia, NZ and Singapore, he earned a Bachelor of Administration(Commerce) and a Master of Financial Management from the University of Queensland.
