Sean Cortis

Special Consultant

Sean has over 30 years of practice experience with specialised skills in taxation, estate and succession planning, business advisory and family office services.

Sean’s key interest is advising families of substantial wealth on the role of the family office in achieving family harmony and wealth preservation across the generations. Sean’s strong tax and business advisory capability has led to his involvement in a number of innovative consulting and corporate advisory assignments, such as public listings, business sales, debt and equity raisings, valuations, mergers and acquisitions, mostly in the family business context.

Sean has worked with a number of prominent families, locally and overseas, on matters of family governance and structures, including the design and implementation of family office infrastructure. He is a recognized thought leader in the family office arena and regularly writes and presents on topics that are challenging for families.

Sean has been an active volunteer in the philanthropic sector for many years, having co-founded the Chapman Eastway Charitable Foundation and serving as Chair of Epilepsy Action Australia from 2016 to 2018.

Sean is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand, a Chartered Tax Advisor and has received TEP designation from the Society of Tax and Estate Practitioners for his experience as a tax and estate practitioner. He has a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from The University of New South Wales and has also been awarded a certificate in Fiduciary Governance from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Sean works closely with the academic community, serving on the Global steering Committee for the STEP Business Families Special Interest Group and as teaching support for the Macquarie Graduate School of Management MBA Program.
